Glide over glassy waters aboard one of our traditional timber ferries and travel part of the longest river on Australia's east coast. The Riverboat Postman has been providing an essential service to river communities since 1910.
In 1790 the Hawkesbury River, 50 kilometres north of Sydney, became the lifeline of trade between the farming communities and the struggling colony of Sydney. Trade flourished and then declined during the 19th Century. Today the river is still a vital link to unique water-access only settlements scattered along this magnificent river.
The Riverboat Postman provides the daily needs to the river community, providing mail, milk, groceries and newspapers.
Sit back, relax and absorb the wonderful scenery as the Riverboat Postman travels from settlement to settlement. Our skippers will provide you with a knowledgeable commentary on many river features, like "Tumbledown", and unique waterside dwellings such as "Blotto Grotto".
The Riverboat Postman takes between 3 and 4 hours to complete a trip and starts from the Brooklyn wharf just beside the Hawkesbury River Railway Station. It runs from Monday to Friday, departing at 9:30am (except Public Holidays).
You can also enjoy our afternoon Coffee Cruise, take a trip on our regular Dangar Island Ferry run (see the Timetable), or enquire about a special charter for your group. Great for weddings, conferences, Christmas parties, school excursions, etc.
